Want the short answer?
Do Number 1, Number 3, and Number 7. They are the best, that’s why I included them in the printed map of Thassos!
If you can only choose one ride: here’s the breakdown:
- If you’re comfortable cycling in dirt roads, do Number 1.
- If you’re new to cycling & wanna see mountains, do Number 6.
- If you’re new to cycling & wanna keep it flat (+beaches), Number 4.
- If you want something short and nice in the mountains, do Number 5.
- If you want to cycle the entire coastline of Thassos (loop), do Number 2.
- If you want something as nice as Number 1 but more difficult, do Number 3.
- If you want something extremely challenging and yet insanely beautiful, Number 7.
This is the default route I recommend to all new clients who want to discover the mountains of Thassos and its beautiful villages.
You will start from my station through the olive grove and go to the mountain village of Kallirachi, from where you will cycle to the green village of Sotiras and then to my favorite mountain village in Thassos: Kazaviti.
That’s an awesome place for a snack or drink before you enjoy the downhill to Skala Prinos, where you will cycle on flat, quiet dirt roads among the olive groves before reaching Skala Kallirachi and loop back to Plaka.
LEVEL: Moderate
KILOMETERS: 39km
ELEVATION: 820meters
LINKS:
This is the most popular bike route in Thassos, and you can take it from anywhere. It’s 100 kilometers long and has around 1000 meters of altitude gain.
If you start from Studios Plaka, I recommend heading south so you’re on the right side of the road to enjoy the stunning views.
Taking a hybrid e-bike will also allow you to visit Marble Beach, cycling between Golden Beach and Limenas. This relatively flat dirt path is one of my favorite areas to cycle in Thassos!
And if you worry about the battery, don’t. The battery is more than enough, especially if you use Eco or Tour Mode. I’ll give you the charger, just in case.

This is my second favorite route, although, for many of my clients, it is equally beautiful.
You’ll start from my station, climb to Karachi through the olive grove, reach the infamous chapel of Kakirachi, cycle through a lush pine forest, get to a scenic viewpoint of south Thassos, and go downhill on the gravel road to Maries Lake & Waterfalls
Then, have a snack or drink at the traditional mountain village of Maries, enjoy the downhill to Skala Maries where you can find fresh fish, and even swim at a remote beach on the way back completing the loop.

One of the best beaches to visit from Thassos e-bike rental station is Salonikios beach. You’ll head south along the main road and then on smooth dirt path that leads to Salonikios Beach.
On the way there, stop by Atspas Beach in Skala Maries, have a drink in Linenaria, and enjoy lunch at the cosmopolitan village of Potos.
And most of all, don’t forget to stop by the stunning cave of Tripiti. It’s a there-and-back tour.

If you want to go mountain e-biking but for something shorter than #1 and #2, I recommend heading first to Kallirachi village through the olive groves.
Once in the mountain village, go north along the dirt road to the sister mountain village of Sotiros, where there are only a handful of permanent residents.
Then go downhill to Skala Sotiros and enjoy the picturesque seafront village with its beach. Finally, explore the surrounding flat and smooth dirt roads in the Prinos olive groves before you head back to the eBike station.
You can also make this route even shorter by skipping the olive grove detour and heading straigt back to the station. This will save you 10 kilometes which brings down the ebike route to only 19 kilometers!

One of the best and easiest eBike routes in Thassos is getting to the peaceful and unique lake and waterfalls of Maries.
You can start from the e-bike Rental Station and head south towards Skala Maries. Once there, leave the main road and follow the paved path to the mountain village of Maries.
It’s uphill but the battery will help you go easily while enjoying the surroundings. In Maries, take a break at a local tavern and then take the smooth dirt road to the artificial lake of Maries.
You’ll find the biggest waterfall below the lake and then 3 more smaller but still beautiful waterfalls above the lake.

Prepare for one of the most insane and challenging ebike route in Thassos! Yes, it’s hard (1422 meters elevation) and long (54.1 kilometers), but it is worth every bit of your efforts.
Trust me. The moment you reach the relatively flat section in the middle of Thassos, cycling with spectacular views on both sides is the best mountain treat you’ll get for a long time.
It’s 7 more kilometers than number 2, one level up in difficulty, this time going deep into the mountains and coming back through the mountain villages of Agios Georgios and Skala Rachoni.
In the mountains, you’ll be in the interior of the island with great views and some picturesque chapels plus you’ll pass by the second biggest monastery in Thassos: Agios Panteleimon above Kazaviti
In Agios Georgios there is a famous wine museum and wine tavern too. It’s the best reward before the descend to the olive groves of Skala Prinos and Skala Sotiros, where you can also swim in a remote or sandy beach!

The region of Kazaviti is home to two distinct villages that each bear the same name. For convenience, locals name them after their size: The Small Kazaviti and the Big Kazaviti.
Connect with nature in your Thassos Holidays
Although Big Kazaviti is larger, both are famous for their stone mansions, neoclassical buildings, and surrounding vegetation. Although they both faced a massive fire a few years ago, they are still as beautiful as they have always been.
You will love the microclimate
If you desire to stay here, you will feel the difference in temperature from day one. While the rest of Thassos may suffer from unprecedented heat, you may need a blanket in Kazaviti to sleep warm at night. The microclimate here is beyond belief.
Taste delicious local wine
As you walk around Kazavitis, you will notice the many vineyards all around. That is no coincidence. The very name Kazavitis means the House of Wine in Latin. To discover more about the wine in Thassos, here is a guide to the best wineries in Thassos.

As you explore Sotiras, you’ll notice the desolate houses home to workers of the mines in the region around 1910. These houses witness the village’s rich history and the lives of the people who once called it home.
Dine at Taverna Platana
The charming Taverna Platana is located in the square but looks like it’s nestled in a Greek forest isle. After all, tens of enormous plane trees surround it—no wonder the tavern offers a unique blend of serenity, hospitality, and culinary excellence.
Watch a stunning sunset
Immerse yourself in one of the most romantic locations on the island and witness a breathtaking sunset in Sotiras. From this vantage point, the view of the coastline kissing the Aegean Sea is genuinely mesmerizing.
E-bike to Kazaviti: one of the best things to do in Sotiras Thassos for your Thassos Holidays

Visit the local sculpture museum
Panagia is also home to a unique sculpture museum run by a local. Visiting it is one of the best ways to discover the ancient art of sculpturing, which was the primary source of income for Thasians in the past centuries.

Experience traditional life during your Thassos Holidays
Kallirachi is one of the few Thassos villages that have remained relatively untouched by tourism. You can feel this from how locals talk to you, as they are eager to help and befriend you.
Hike to the mountain of Kakirachi
Kallirachi stands for Good Cliff in Greek, but if you move further up, you will find Kakirachi, translated as Bad Cliff, an excellent place to hike. That was the position locals protected themselves from pirates who gave the bitter name out of frustration for its difficult access.

- Studios Plaka – guest’s review: “We had a wonderful holiday just above the waves. The studios, the yard and the garden are created with great taste and home coziness. We enjoyed peace, purity, beautiful sea just for us, amazing sunsets and beauty. Location – the best we’ve come across. Attitude – more than wonderful. Conditions – excellent. The garden – beautiful and quiet over the shore. There is no other noise except in the waves in front of the house. Maria is very hospitable, responsive and with a big smile! The place was super cozy, clean, comfortable, well-equipped with decent WiFi, and plenty of space both indoors and out, to have such an amazing, quiet, peaceful stay. And Dimitrios was such a wonderful, kind host, responding very quickly to anything we needed and just being very helpful. Would absolutely go back and stay here 🙂“
